Thanks :) We're hoping you might have a couple of specail services during the
game! So how long does it take you to write the orders for 12 nations?

LOL ;)
Part of why I try to post with (GM) or (Player) after it. I think that playing 2 turns a week and all 12 nations would be a bit of a strain... ;) Maybe next time uh!? :D

Apologies for any confusion...

Good play with 1st turn in 12 but no suprises yet.
I'm more conservative in my approach. Plod to victory me... Luckily no actual errors, but one tactical improvement I've noticed already.
Guess I know where Angulion started then! :p

Mixed turn - looks like you've gone for the gambit up North - should be interesting that one. Not sure splitting the cavalry is best but there you go. We shall see.
Wonder how your agents are doing? :D How's the artefact hunt going? 5:1 deaths for the good guys!
Militarily I'd say you're ahead (pains me to say it) but there you go... :o Nice reveal - I suspected as much but decided to do unto you what you do unto me! ;) Sauron doesn't help much - although I've had Galadriel, Gandalf, Saruman and Sauron now in 2 turns!
Anyone ever stopped food going to 2 on turn 1?
Clint
happymadcat
6th March 2006, 05:53 PM
Food prices are nice! :p We're going to even out the character defecit on turn 3
don't you worry! So you've packed the stumpies army at DG with loads of
fragile war machines. Will be interesting to see the outcome.
Its going to be a long road to victory, maybe we should change this game from every 2 weeks to a power game! Dear ol Clint doing 24 turns in a week!

Something like. Interesting game so far. Just the 3 mistakes this turn from me... :( Cor - 12 nations is HARD! (Enjoying the challenge).
Ah well - hopefully this turn I can actually spend some time on my turns rather than the last minute rush.... ;)
Well food back to 1 so that's an improvement.

Hmmm, I wonder what it would be like to play all 12 nations, quite
interested. Would there be any financial reduction in costs or would it be full
whack?

22nd March 2006, 02:01 PM
Reduced cost - if there's any teams with 4 or less players you get reduced cost. Upto 33% off.

Sorry I thought I was playing the military game and you guys the long slow economic game... :-) LOL ;)
Don't think you've seen anything yet on the artefact front... :D I guess that means you've finally got some Locates going uh?!
Not sure that Harad is long for this game either but if you'd be kind enough to leave the Eothraim alone for a couple of turns that would be great.
Sindar is doing fine - ironically it's been such a different game in that area to what I planned that I've just had to punt and hope. Rhudaur cavalry move was interesting but I think slightly too short term.
Any chance we can just post about this game on this thread please guys? There's plenty of space for other posts elsewhere... :p

Hello from Quiet Avenger ... curious name for a Nation which (in this game) is being quite the way round! Nothing quiet, Southern Area is by far, the one with most movement. NG SG Corsairs and Sinda in a global offensive against Harad. So far by my side I have been quite successful, I have sunk one Corsairs Navy commanded by the Almighty Angamaite!! I loose my Hero as well, but you know, in this Grudge games DS navies are worth nothing. I have also won the only one battle against ground Corsair forces and this turn I face two more. Oh yes, nice movement challenging Thergor, however it's just that if you sly my characters I will just make more :) never played QA before and honestly is so so so nice seeing your emissairs growing and growing ... and well I'm sorry Tirn Harn did not surrender to your Corsair Lord, a pitty you wasted your time there, if you want to pay us a visit again, please let us know, we will order more beer and meat to prepare the proper reception for such distinguished personalities instead of pushing you away :)
By the way! Who is playing Corsairs?

from so many different Freep nations. :-)
Clint
3rd April 2006, 03:12 PM
Like I said - bland, recruit, attack. Rinse, repeat :p Not actually seen my turns yet...
I like the pick 'n' mix option myself. On of the strengths of playing all 12 is making sure that everyone gets where they are supposed to (if I get the orders right!) and no wrangling.... :D

3rd April 2006, 05:12 PM
That is the benefit of the 1 player team system Clint:) Guess the downside
is a couple of sleepless nights doing all the orders and the price of crates

Just the two awful mistakes this turn - ah well :D At this rate in two turns time it will be none. By then no doubt I'll have killed a nation. :D :p
Not quite sure what you guys are up to in WK land - looks like you're trying to keep your armies alive as long as possible!
Should be interesting at Morannon this turn and the onslaught against the Eothriam continues - that's another non-army guy you've killed now... Maybe you'll actually take an army out soon uh? :p

Subordinate : My Lord Duran we have beaten that Sinda army that was in our way
Duran : Great Elf ear stew for supper tonight. Right I give you the honour to lead our troops onto the Sinda capital
Subordinate : Thankyou my Lord, most kind and generous Lord (grovel, grovel, grovel)
days later......
Duran : Well we should be there by now, where the Sauron are we?
Subordinate : Mmmmyyyy Lord it appears we are lost
Duran : LOST! You mean we are not going to burn the Sinda out of these woods
Subordinate : Errrr not this week my Lord
Duran : Right lads off with his head!!!

Sindar  URGH - loadsa errors

Did very similar move in our GM Grudge game so - yes I do... ;) It all depends on the impact it has in the end though of course. The beauty of NG is it has so many PCs to give to its enemies that... well I'll shut up now....

Now that I think of ... Maros will be assaulted, well then maybe we send it to Eradas ... uops !! better send it to your Capital? at least it will not be assaulted this turn. Clints gone a bit quiet, must have fully read his turns, stared into the palantir

the end.. The North Gate is looking stickier for the Freeps and now
agent paranoia has set in. But granted Clint is doing well in the NW, all
the player transfer's up there has cost of us even tho the Arth have been
crippled. Here's to a good game! :)

Artefact hunt is going really well. Happy to assist with passing on the agent items. You're correct it's turn 6 and I've not taken anyone out yet - what are you expecting some to die? Scary...
I'll swop a character for a MT all the time... WK must be really hurting now. Losing a couple of characters a turn isn't really a lot is it? :p
Don't think either the Harad nor the Corsair have had a good game but well we'll see how things develop there. (Think you guys should have captured not destroyed the 2 MTs down south).

Heh it's hard playing 12, 2wks is a killer like I said, basically got my turns in the last minute nearly every turn now and that's causing errors... :o No excuses, there's some interesting moves afoot - not sure how much longer you guys can last in the NW. (Wish Sauron would stop turning up though, that's 3 times now!) Interesting move down south but I'm hoping that you guys are under some pressure in Mordor now. Belechael well - not really he could have gone up last turn and I suspect that you've been running around with agents a tad recently trying to catch him... ;)

Hya guys - how goes the (losing) war?! :D ;)
Think honours were in my favour this turn... I give you the RoW and Collowesta you give me some nice items in return. Morannon fallen finally (2nd attempt) but within allowable losses. (Think the next few waves through there will be more interesting for you all).
Shame about the market uh?! Not quite sure what the QA is upto but no doubt we'll see a game plan there soon. Looks like Dragon Lord has gone Emi - shame he's still in the game but can't win them all. Any time you want to get a second dragon is fine with me btw... ;)
Finally nice to get a kill in - and what a nice one it was too... :-) Plus the odd over-run and the FK is not looking so healthy either...
To sacrifice on the IK capital or not... :D :p 4th wave of troops coming soon... just need to sort out some food issues (you'll be please to know only one minor error last turn). So with 12k troops in the heart of Mordor and more on the way we wonder what plans you have to halt the hordes????
Note if you could be kind enough to give back my only Eothraim character lost so far that would be very kind of you... Not quite sure what to do with all those Eothraim characters at present - it's quite embarrassing, ditto NG & SG. Dwarves are looking a tad un-healthy at present though so if you'd be kind enough to target the Eothraim this turn @3222 that would be helpful.
Down south - would you mind failing in one kill soon - it's getting difficult to hold you off at present and desperate measures are needed.

Happy to play any side. I usually tailor my style to the format of game I'm playing (shocking as that may sound!) DS 1650 is probably my strongest game I think, but I think it's easiest to win with FP in 1650. 2950 in our grudge team we've usually won by turn 8 as either side though so maybe from that perspective my game is stronger in 2950 (I usually do lots of the co-ordination). 1000 is probably my weakest game.
QA - undefeated - correct - for the time being. Still not sure what your armies are doing attacking NG though [what Gondorion forces - a quick snipe in with SG cavalry - not quite sure you understood its purpose!]... ;)

2 Interesting claims...
1) Clint - did you let Guy look through your files?
2) While his agressive military play is traditionally more FP, now weren't we surprised when the large DS cav forces simply kept coming in numbers that were, well, surprising... One might consider it a perfect DS style, all things considered. Take the economy, pound out 20-60% more forces than the FP are *expecting* and hammer at them with agents - let the starting FP keep all the mage toys, mages, bah, conjure mounts and ride~! (actually, I have no idea what he was doing with his DS mages that game....)

Clint (player)

It would have been close Clint.. The original Harad player choose to pursue
an emissary strategy (would you believe it?) and left a very hard nation to
do anything with when I picked it up 3 turns ago.. Problem was compounded
by Harad having to bail out QA every turn with every spare cent for the
last few turns..
If Harad hadnt gone kaput next turn it wouldnt have taken more then a
couple of more turns.. Yes, we knew the Corsiars armies were cav unless
they had dropped in magic carpets are us..
I had originally planned to agent siege 4 of your nations capitals by turn
6 but Clint's superb military play taking advantage of poor Dog and DkLts
tactics (before Ian took the nation over) so putting all my CL agents into a
desperate rear guard action.. Clint must have been shocked when he
was allowed to take 3120 unappossed and control the gate to Morannon
for the rest of the game.. The biggest CL mistake was trying to
kidnap a mis named character, not much more a CL player could have
done with the lack of DS armies out there.
Er Murazor
13th July 2006, 02:30 PM
Well
I believe that as QA nothing more could be done, since Harad decided to go for emissairs, I found myself recruiting in more places and troops than Harad. I managed even to do some damage and burn 2 corsairs MT. My army in Gondor was to avoid your armies running through my camping area. My economy was not really good, since I had to support so many troops. I managed now to have 6 emissairs between 55-60 level. I even survived one tax rising. I got some gold from Harad this turn :) but not every turn .... :O only WK fall was acceptable other bankrupts were self provided. Harad never send his intentions and sometimes I even had to imagine myself the map and the info and orders. When Guy took over the nation it was too late. I'm very proud to do what I have done and kill so many CO characters. Nice play with Thergor challenge, a pitty Baranor did not show up!

Lol, I'm still getting the blame am I Guy? Should have known I guess. In fairness it was only after turns ran that you seemed to disagree with what I was doing . . .
Leaving 3120 and the road totally undefended was something the team
desperately tried to rebound from to no avail.. Are you joking I disagreed
only after the turns ran.. Going senile Simon? Don't remember the 30+
email thread about the importance of blocking the North Gate BEFORE
the turn ran???? ROFL
fragilesi
18th July 2006, 05:16 PM
Don't you remember the fact that I couldn't defend it and follow the plan that I was asked to follow at the time because the previous turns I had been using the additional commanders for things like ferrying artifacts around?
No point telling a guy left with one commander to be in two places at once and again to be fair I did counsel massing our forces for that very purpose rather than running all over the place from the start.
Either way, we were beaten by a better "team" :)
happymadcat
18th July 2006, 06:29 PM
True and that was what the email thread was all about.. Dog wanted to
attack and due to lack of commanders there was no defence.. I aguered
long and hard that attack with no defence was suicide against Clint so
therefore defence was paramount.. It was Dog's plan you followed Simon,
no one else's; which I opposed very loudly....
Unforunetaly I was proved right. Wish I wasn't but when you give an
inch to a player of Clint's calibre its going to happen.. But it was a great
experience and I hope we all learned from the game. :D
fragilesi
19th July 2006, 05:22 AM
Guy, yes precisely about the one commander. However, the "mistake" was not the Dog's plan as such - which I followed as it had the majority support of those expressing an opinion at the time but the fact that I left a single commander at 3120 for that crucial turn. One more turn and the backup forces were there.
Once the single commander was left there there wasn't another move. You asked for blocking which is what that single commander effectively did by moving up the road anyway and no-one had a backup army to support additional blocking bcause of the very offensive strategy.
I think regardless of the nitty gritty the main point is that the team was divided over tactics at the start. If you remember I didn't believe in the Dog plan but followed it with the majority at the time even though it was extremely ambitious. That's where we as a team went wrong. In short I dispute your summation that the game was lost "mainly" due to my bad tactics or that 3120 was quite so significant when we weren't all pulling in the same direction which was the root cause.
One of the things you did get right was pointing out our lack of recruitment and looking at the map above little changed. I think I was a pretty rare DS in that I was recruiting at both my major towns . . .

Simon, if I you want I'll open up the Yahoo group so you can refresh your
memory.. The Dog plan was'nt widely supported so hence I call it the Dog
plan; a few players expressed doubts but there wasnt much support besides
Dog's conviction.
There wasnt much recruitment as Clint had squeezed us financially, remember
me prattling on about the importance of stealing from the right nations,
protecting PC's etc...

It wasn't widely supported but it carried the majority who expressed an opinion from the start. I was one of the very few to question it originally but followed it because that was the plan.
And we didn't all follow it fully so like I said, our main problem was that we never had one plan that we stuck too. Dog wanted you to concentrate your agents, you saw the need to split them and so it went on. I was going to send Gothmog up to Morannon and you asked for him to go West so I did.
But surely you agree that never as a team did we have a clear majority decision on what the overall plan was. When you are a team against a single player like Clint that isn't going to work in any case.

I don't think anyone else spoke against the attack plan but yes a few expressed
doubts over it. But not enough oppoisiton to stop the plan due to Dog's
insistence.
I agree over the 2 plans in the team; and I spoke of this earlier in this thread;
attempting to banrupt EO was plain wrong and wasted our agents stealing
little.. Harad's emissary strategy (again supported by Dog) was plain
stupid and was opposed by not only me.. The problem simply was a
couiple of players presumed they knew better and ended up with egg on
their face.. I understand you were caught in the middle but then again
some level of hindsight should have been employed.
You're totally right; against a tight grudge team or 1 player a united team
is needed and thus I will be very wary of what players to have in the team
before attempting another vs 1 grudge game.
