My recent turns also show 3 so I guess the front sheet entry on the forums is a bit behind...which makes sense given that it's a manual process, done by a third party, etc., etc.
Two to go? Yippee!

I never thought about the one disadvantage to the Neutrals; almost no authoritative information about what's going on in other parts of the world.
It's kind of exciting, in a way. At risk of sounding a bit like Ed Mills (whcih I do anyway so nothing to be done about it really), this makes me wish for the days when the two teams weren't so in-touch due to the high availability of the Internet.

There needs to be something more specific than, "we have rebuffed all strikes originating from OZ westard," and "In the north we have taken some minor hits and have doled out some destruction of our own within Mirkwood and surrounding area. Each side has slapped the other w/ some character losses and the Freeps have gained a couple of toys that we would like back." Free People/Dark Servants,
As I stated before, all diplomacy with my will be carried out in public via this board. The actions of other neutrals have no bearing on which side I declare for - and I will declare openly. Now, when I asked for news I meant what I asked for: news. Telling me that characters have died and there's fighting going on in Osgiliath and Mirkwood is pointless because, well, there's always fighting going on in Osgiliath and Mirkwood as well as various other parts of the map. I am not asking either team to divulge their strategy for the game but revelant news will make a BIG difference in which way I declare.

Respectfully, Grima,
We Woodmen are not exactly sure what you mean by "relevant news", if not what was offered by another. The Dark Side deputy indeed gave you 'news' after a fashion. It was of course winnowed and sifted so that others do not intercept it and make uses of it contrarywise to the designs of the messenger. He also was ensuring the needs of his bretheren were not put ahead of those who would resist them. We Woodmen understand the careful line he must walk...lest he upset the nameless one and be fed to a Ring Wraith.
If his reply was not as worthy 'as news from Bree', then what might be? If your master does not desire news of heroes falling, of armies clashing, of wonderous items being retrieved, of bridges being sabotaged since the beginings of this war, what then is 'newsworthy' to Master Saruman?
We are interested in conducting a dialog, but we are not well used to the...novel...form your master chooses. Perhaps you could provide an example of the kind of information that he desires? Much it is that occurs in the Gap of Calenardhon, and something there might be of interest to those of us who live in the Greenwood. An example, well crafted, may prompt us to a better understanding of his needs and ultimately lead to useful information in return.
We look forward to an example of a newsworthy item, to better our understanding in the hopes we can be allies.

No, I wasn't expecting to hear full blown intelligence reports detailing who had what artifact, who is searching for what, what squads are forming, etc., but I did expect some realistic news that is readily known to both sides like a BATTLE REPORT or something like that. Saying that there's fighting on the map, characters have died, and artifacts have been found is useless.
There is common information on turn reports that cannot be hidden from the other side, and then there is information that is obviously secret that one's opponents are not privy too. I request the former and not the latter. If neither side is smart enough to figure out what information on one's turn report falls into which category, then I'm going to be sitting on my hands for a while.

Here is a quick summary of battle reports from NG:
1
NG armies quickly moved to 3123 and 3124 to block DS aggression.
2
3123: no battle, lots of staring.
3124: NG defeats WK starter army and FK forces.
3
3123: NG "blockers" defeated by IK.
3124: NG faces forces of WK, DkLts, FK. Argirion challenges and defeats Shagrat, Skargnakh challenges and loses to Ecthelion. FK army disbands and remaining DS armies are defeated.
4
3024: Ik defeats NG
3124: NG defeats FK, no WK army present.
5
3024: 4 armies of NG and SG face 4 armies of IK, FK and DkLts. FP win, Hoarmurath captured, stripped of artifacts, but escaped.
6
3024: NG and SG face FK army and defeat it. Strulug(FK) challenges Hero Golasgil and loses.
In summary three FK characters died in challenges but no PCs were lost or taken by either side. Both sides can claim successful holding action.

Good to hear from you! Hope your nation is doing well. I have not had the chance to visit the Forum for a few weeks and did not know you were accepting communications. I stopped writing when you did not answer my request for relations on turn 0.
While I will not go into detail as to who, if anyone, has died or give a detailed report of what artifacts we have retrieved or lost, or how are companies are coming together; I will tell you that our team is working well together.
The Freeps battle report is accurate, but it is not the sum of the game. Anything else that I would write would not be for the Forum, but for private communications.

Hello Saruman,
Now that we have a better understanding of the level of detail you desire, please allow the Woodmen to apologize for our earlier confusion, and to post "newsworthy" events occuring along the upper Anduin.
Turn 1:
Woodmen and WK forces meet at 2405. The Woodmen defeat Angulion's icon.
Sinda forces occupy 2715, encountering Gaskburz of DL. Gaskburz' icon is defeated.
Roahn enocunters Grashukh at 2518, and the DS icon is destroyed along with the DS camp.
Turn 2:
Woodmen and Sinda forces encounter Ogrod's icon at 2613. The Free defeat Ogrod's icon.
Rohan intercepts Duran's force at 2518, and defeats it with the aid of Dwaithohir Eagles.
Dwarven forces under Dain attempt to occupy 3017, and are met by Mornadak's icon. Dain's icon is destroyed and he is captured.
The Free continue to occupy Dol Guldur unopposed.
Turn 3:
Northmen forces occupy 2809 unopposed.
The Free continue to occupy Dol Guldur unopposed.
Turn 4:
The forces of Rogrog move from 2305 to 2405. Two Woodmen icons destroy Rogrog's command.
The Dunedain occupy 2006, meeting forces of the WK under Bolg. Bolg's forces are destroyed.
Sarn Goriwing 2809 is now a Free pop center.
Mornadak's forces attempt to reinforce 2715 Dol Guldur, meeting forces of Taurnil. Taurnil destroyed Mornadak's forces, but was assassinated.
Turn 5:
Celeborn's icon occupies Dol Guldur, unopposed.
Turn 6:
Free forces occupy 2409, unopposed.
The Dunedain take posession of 2006 Mt. Gram.
The Free occupy 3017 unopposed.
And, as a DS deputy also noted, this is not the "sum of the game." There are of course artifacts to be found and encounters for gold to be had, areas where we Free also excel. Of course, you will need to join the Free to benefit from our artifact gathering program.

Din Othar dead in a challenge at 3024.:D
This is the turn 7 battle report for SG. No DS armies at 3024.
News break: 800 defeat over 2,000 DS forces at 3124!:)
Battle at 3124
In the Mild climate of the Mountains of 3124, a conflict took place in the early afternoon during a driving
storm.
At the head of a highly energetic army rode Lord Angbor of the nation of Southern Gondor. The mount on which
he rode cantered anxiously along the side of the battle lines. Behind him the forming ranks were filled
with:
Troops Weapons Armor Formations
451 Dúnadan footmen w/broadswords wooden/bronze none/leather a mob
361 Lesser Dúnadan footmen w/shortswords bronze/steel leather/bronze ragged ranks
At the head of a rebellious army rode General Gothmog of the nation of the Dark Lieutenants. In his hands
was borne the glowing Flail called Skull Flail. The mount on which he rode moved with trepidation to the
center of the battle lines. Behind him the forming ranks were filled with:
Troops Weapons Armor Formations
1000 Troll footsoldiers w/battle axes wooden none a mob
250 Mannish slaves w/maces wooden none a mob
At the head of a demoralized army rode Captain Shurukhai of the nation of the Witch-king. In her hands was
borne the glowing Bow called Romoquenáro. The mount on which she rode stood cautiously at the rear of the
battle lines. Behind her the forming ranks were filled with:
Troops Weapons Armor Formations
400 Troll footsoldiers w/flails wooden none a mob
7/27/2007 Game 28 Player 7 Turn 7 Page 7
At the head of a calm army rode Commander Carfe of the nation of the Fire King. The mount on which he rode
moved calmly to the front of the battle lines. Behind him the forming ranks were filled with:
Troops Weapons Armor Formations
400 Troll footsoldiers w/battle axes bronze bronze a mob
The Major Town of Minas Morgul flying the flag of the Witch-king is situated in the Mountains here. It is
fortified by a Castle.
Report from Angbor.....My commanders moved among the troops before battle, readying them, bolstering their
resolve, and issuing last minute orders. These troops didn't need much encouragement and waved and joked
with their Commanders, offering bets on who would find the best plunder. Finally the order was heard
coursing through the ranks.. Keep close ranks. Use standard formation. Like we practiced!
Against the forces of Carfe, our standard formation adjusted as they veered off and hit our flank.
After the battle had joined in earnest, heroes made their presence known all over the battlefield.
Report from Angbor.....Our foot soldiers were forced to fight the terrain as well as the enemy in these
boulder filled ravines and high trails. The troops fought very well, but more training would have raised
them to great heights. They fought with great spirit. Although the enemy fought hard, we finally succeeded
in overwhelming them after a long battle.
Commanders on the scene ordered their troops to salvage what they could from the remains of the enemy
forces..
Lord Angbor: 1 Food
After the battle.... Angbor's forces were victorious in the battle, but suffered some losses. Angbor
appeared to have survived. Gothmog's forces found no enemy armies to fight. Shurukhai's forces found no
enemy armies to fight. Carfe's forces were destroyed/routed in the battle. Carfe appeared to have survived
but suffers from light wounds.

Add to that over 1500 DrL and BS troops defeated east of Mordor this turn with no losses to speak of and NM still have almost 2000 troops at your back door... facing about 500 defenders...
Obviously the fate of the last army that sortied out of the eastern gap towards Rhun has kept you very cautious but I don't mind coming to find you...
And, still no army on the DrL MT, looks like I'll have to make my own entertainment...

This is part of the information I asked for, but not everything considering that I have yet to hear anything of substance from the Dark Servants. Why don't you post up how the war fares for your side, from your point of view, then let me read it and I'll get a more complete picture.

Come now, I don't have that much power over you to make your decisions, Or do I:rolleyes:
I do not speak for my teammates as they can do that for themselves. But I will give you my take on the game so far. We are taking our lumps. What the Freeps have said is accurate and they've come out aggressive in all aspects and have had some good fortune at the tossup stuff. But we have had some success in other areas and I will allow my teammates to expand upon that. It's early and I'm not overly concerned.

I have something to add.
Riders took out 3017 last turn. LR left a bunch of supplies for me, bless his little black heart. Apparently the DS are using the appeasement philosophy: "Ok, you take that, but go no further this turn. Please..."
The FP are just waiting for the storm to break. Each turn that storm gets further and further from us, the better, because we have the better weather making abilities and we're mobile. Still, five neutrals left to declare. I suspect what is taking so long is that neutrals are naturally inclinded to go DS, but the DS are naturally inclined to expect that, so everyone keeps their thumbs warm.
This game is a bit boring without the neutrals stepping in. Come on guys, let's not wear out the fence (Duns have a legitimate excuse, seeing as though that position is has been the red headed stepchild this game).

What you say is true.
I wouldn't say the game is a washout, though. There are plenty of tricks/gambits/whatever the DS could utilize to counter-act the FP advances and such, but the creativity and teamwork needed to implement those seems to be lacking at the moment.
Unless the DS get a good neutral split, the road will be long and uphill for them. They better hope there is nothing coming the other way...

Let's see, where should we start? How about the East side of Mordor. Are the Northmen pleased w/their welcoming party? So far they've done ZERO damage. How about in the pass? Is SG happy w/the turn of events? Don't worry, we'll take good care of Angbor for you.:D Once again ZERO damage. Can't wait to see how much damage Duinhir will do w/his 100 heros:bash: Now NG, well done:fork: NG has made a move against the IK town at 3123 and appears poised to take it. No bother, the DS contingent will take Oz this turn and defeat the Gondorian armies there. To the north the IK and Riders will duke it out at the crossroads. In Mirkwood the Woodies lost a camp and were defeated by the Dog and both will battle again this turn w/hopefully similar results.:D The WK and Woody are engaged this turn and it does not look good for the Woods. As for other events, Sinda still sits at the DrgL cap and artys are being picked up by both sides. As for the neutrals, I don't know. Others are taking on the role of diplomat. It appears the open forum is not the ideal place for ongoing diplomacy. But I'm sure you know that;)

So, you feel pretty good about taking some capitals, do you? Can you count? we took 2 t-w-o MT's this turn and you took 1, that's o-n-e. :)
:: sigh ::
I'll take that as a "No".

Um, well Ji, thanks for sparing our lives at your capital, sorry we couldn't do the same for your people there, or for that matter your capital, oh and another of your MTs, yes that's t-w-o MTs taken to your o-n-e :)

Ok, my gloating was limited to one MT and one line. Kudos to you all for the work at my capital! I did all I could to hold it, just couldn't match Alezru or should I say we never could win the 50/50 stuff in this game. Nonetheless, you guys had a fine strategy and we needed more time to counter it. Yes, needed as in past tense, as in you guys win. Our team would like to congratulate you all on some fine team play. And we look forward to meeting up again for future battles.
Overall, I thought our team rebounded from a very rough start regarding challenges and troop losses. We had a tough time coming together on what was important and that slowed our effort and strengthened yours. Without question, the most devasting part of your strategy was your emmys. Add in we lost the WK to bankrupcty when he was doing great! But this game is about the little details too. The WW position did not help us as he had 3 SS turns and to be honest, I think if that position had been more communicative, then our team would have been more receptive to his needs when you guys swarmed him. And finally, when you guys arrived at my cap (without invitations:mad:) this was our last stand. Well done! :)
See you all in other games,

Hi Dan,
I was beginning to think that we'd let our advantage slip, you had been catching up well over the last few turns with some great work by Cl and LR (probably others but they were the most obvious), I think your efforts to save the WW cost you dear, I'll gather my stuff and post a summary of the game from our viewpoint if you like...
Oh, by the way, Corsairs got your backup MT so they are very much alive and kicking!

Yeah, I ss'd three times, which is more in one game than I have ever done the entire time I've been playing this game.
I lost interest in the game the instant I realized that there was very little direction on the Dark Servant team. For a neutral to join the team and then start dictating what people should do is not the best way to make an impression - so I just played my part and did what I could with the support I received.
If you are going to start critcizing poor play perhaps you should look in the mirror first.

Hey Dan,
Well, if this is really it, I would like to echo Jon's thoughts and say thanks for a hard-fought game on your end, particularly in the last few turns. I don't know much about what went on behind the scenes with the DS (hopefully, once it's official, we can all discuss some of the key moves/events in the game from everyone's perspective), but I would note that WW's communication style from the outset (by insisting that all diplo take place on the board) and, as I understand it, "surprise" declaration for the DS would seem to indicate a lack of team play (not saying you can't be a team player, Ben, just my impression of this game as an admitted outsider -- I freely admit this may be a misperception on my part and there may be many other reasons of which I know nothing).
I don't know how cohesive the rest of the DS was this game, but the FP in this game was most definitely a very cohesive team, with all players often doing things at much sacrifice to their nation for the betterment of the team. It was a major reason why I opted to go Free.
In any event, I'll post my congrats to my teammates, thanks to the DS, and more thoughts on the game once an official message goes out that it's over.
Best,
Mark (Duns)

I call it like I see it. The FACT is our entire team was surprised by your declaration, but we welcomed your presence nonetheless.(as we needed experience and help) With zero dialog and then 3 special service turns, I call that piss poor individual play on your part, forget the teamwork aspect. If your intention is to blame the inexperienced players on our team for your 3 special service turns and lack of dialog, I call that chicken s---!
Each game brings different challenges, just not every player rises to address the challenges. I have no problem looking in the mirror after this game. Can you honestly say you feel the same ?

There were times when several of us felt we were turning the corner and then something else inhouse would put a damper on things. It's most unfortunate about us not being able to take out the Corsairs, but that is a credit to your team and to the Corsair player for hanging in there and not quitting as we know if was tough on him as well. I have no problem sharing any pdfs and I only have one question of you guys, How many emmys hit the WW capital? that was a critical play at the time.

The fact is that you called me out on my play without having examined your play first. It is not my place as a neutral to join a side and then dictate how that team should play. The DS team clearly 'lacked direction.' This is not an indication that any particular player played their nation well or poorly rather it is clearly indicative that the entire DS Team, myself included once I joined, was unable to pick any single strategy and stick with it.
I made my needs and intentions clear, that I would hold Angrenost and attempt to take 1922 as quickly as possible. I did the best I could with the support I received. Again, if you are going to call out individual performances, start with yourself. I played poorly. I SS'd a number of turns.
You did no better.
The game is over and I am done making comments on it.

In my opinion that is where we failed the most. I commend the remaining players on our team as they faced difficult events during the course of the game and always tried to promote the team cause. There were 6 of us left playing 7 nations.

We'll play again at some point, Mark. And I hope to be able to take our your capital when we do.
As for my intentions for this game, when I play a neutral I like to throw in a random variable - all negotiations being public was that variable. Unfortunately I started a new job and was unable to access this board for an extended period of time which in turn made my original intentions moot. However, now that I can access the board again I will try this approach with another neutral in a future game.

Wrong Ben,
I did not call you out on your play. I called you out on your lack of play. I have not the slightest clue of your playing ability. You are correct that our team lacked direction, that is not a surprise. But you are incorrect in that I played poorly. I have no problem sharing my pdf files. I simply stated the WW nation special service turns hurt our team and that the lack of dialog influences a players willingness to help one in need. This email is an example of our teams dialog, someone states an opinion and someone counters while never getting anywhere and stalling forward movement. Fortunately the Free team was above this and took some of us out of misery. While the game is over, I'll comment on questions and set the record straight if I feel it needs to be addressed. We all have our opinions, but we also have pdf files that show how each of us played.
enjoy,
Dan

I found that very impressive. Some people seem to think that emmys are less effective under the rank of 60 and will not use them against MT's. I've found that emmys in their 50's and even 40's can be effective at MT's, but I find it harder to influence others w/the risk/reward on this issue. I think our team used 7 emmys of 70 and above to take Pelargir. thanx for the info.

Well it was 12 at 2119 and 13 at 3223 that turn, the 2119 team then split up and went after smaller pops while the 3223 team took the Mordor MTs.
I think one of the best bits of the game for us had to be when our newly formed curse squad found themselves adjacent to a newly declared DS Saruman through a speculative RCT, great first kill!
Most nail-biting moment was RhE SSing when poised to take 3822, forced his taxes to the high 90s but survived to win the following turn.

Jon's being polite. I was also responsible for 2/3 of the Mounts buyout that turn, and several nations dumped money on Mounts for no appreciable effect.
And then Winter came.
Well, gents, like the rest of the FP team, I'll of course wait for the official notice that the game is over before deciding to move on.
But, operating now on the assumption that the DS surrender is real, my thanks to everyone for making my last game of MEPBM so enjoyable.
And sorry for the mild heart attack I caused. :-)

Well,
As a final on this game, I'd like to thank first the DS for their spirited play. Going down 6 nations throughout the course of the game, and still managing to put up some fight was enjoyable. Thank you, all.
Next, I'd like to thank my team, who were well organized and very willing to help out those of us impoverished nations who would not otherwise have seen the spring. Beorn and his friends thank you all!
Last, I'd like to to thank the neutrals who joined us. A three/two split, with Duns, RE and Corsairs made for a map where we could put pressure on several fronts.
My two lessons from this game: Emys don't suck, and heavy cav does.
My thanks to all for a very fun game, especially since it's my first win!
