Filling dropped positions

Colin, Clint has a list of players willing to take over dropped positions,
as did his predecessors. Guess what, although I'm on the list and have been
for years, I've never been contacted when a dropped position was
available... I think there may be a connection here...

Tout for replacements: OK, yes, perfect.

Tout for a specific replacement in a public forum: nah, nada, NO. <g>

Well time for me to step in I think.

I have contacted a number of players concerning this. Sometimes I am aware
if players are looking for a game (but not on the standby list) and
sometimes I just ask.

At present my list stands at 5 players, but I do not have Gavin's name on
that list.

It is very hard to get players to take over a position in a game that they
are not playing in. I asked a fairly large number of players to step in -
but no luck. (Over a month of trying so far). With that in mind I opened
it up to the public forum - not that there are a massive number of players
subscribed (out of 160 players who have email turns less than 1/5th - there
are more players that have access to email btw).

If the position is on a team then I generally try the other team members
first to see if they know anyone - much the better option I think. With
Neutrals it is harder.

If anyone wants to join the standby list please contact me.

Nor is Colins - although I am often in contact with him - and the usual
comment is something like "too many games." I don't like to hastle players
unless I feel it is necessary.
