View Full Version : Game 77

And so it begins ...

As the winter snow closes in around the wastes which lie between Angmar and Arnor, the Witch King decides to send out his armies - but wait! Where's the enemy? And why has that small cavalry army stopped just short of Gundabad? Could it be the Elves have infiltrated Carn Dum and discovered Murazor's plans? But no, surely the Elves would be more interested in raiding the wine cellars!

Further south the Ice King has fallen on Osgiliath like an avalanche. But does he have enough troops? Just how many men are on board those Gondorian ships?

ooooh a post!

I'm hoping for a good game: some of your side's initial moves have certainly got us guessing.

fun fun fun!!! :)

In Lorien, the generals at the War Council receive spy reports that the Enemy is in confusion.

"If they are kept guessing already", Elendar grinned to himself, "they are certainly in for a hell of a ride...". Then he looked around, seeing the confused looks of his superiors pointing at a map of the Misty Mountains and his face darkened.

And in Imladris fair, the tidings of war are close as well...

for the Witch King of accursed Angmar and his slaves would bring their legions of death before the ancient strongholds of the Elves. And in Great Greenwood the shadows were looming and the Necromancer defiled the sacred groves of the Sindar. And the City of Stars, lay besieged by the vile forces of frozen death. And all, Men and Elves and Dwarves could only wait the coming of the tides of darkness.

Yet, let darkness be no longer. For are we not children of the Valar and have we not shed tears unnumbered in the plains of lost Beleriand? And have we not fought against the very Lord of Darkness, Dark Foe of the World to whom the current shadow was but a lieutenant?

Awaken my brethren, and embrace the glory that is our destiny. No longer shall darkness prevail in our hearts and the light of blessed Aman shall shine once again...

Indeed, a very interesting turn. Maben got very flukey for your side, but we've had a bit of luck ourselves :-)

I expect Harad has a headache.

A message was sent from Lorien to the Free People of Middle Earth. It read as follows:

<<Allies and friends, we have lost Nimrodel to the knife of the enemy. She was valued in our home at Lothlorien as a mistress and a ruler and a lady fair. Her loss will fill our hearts with sorrow for ages to come. Our laments will not stop after she is avenged, for the sorrow runs deeper.>>

Heheh but seriously, nice job with Argaleb; it totally caught us flat-footed. This game is going down much different avenues than our last one... fun fun fun!!!

Oh the pain...the pain :(

The overridden Marendil WILL be avenged. You stomped him into the ground rather well.

THE FIGHT CONTINUES.

P.S. Vinyaran is being VERY cooperative atm.

So...

Amroth is cozy :)

Now that all the orders are straightened out Vinyaran served his purpose and wasn't needed.

NW Rhudaur area. Took a gamble and guessed wrong hehe. Damn blocking :D I seem to be still functioning though. Wonder what happened to those armies a couple turns ago

Still interesting turns very interesting. Nice snag with Elladan. That wasn't very nice :(

More interesting things to come I would definitely guess.

Elendar
23rd April 2003, 03:02 PM
It appears like the three Dark Servant Mirkwood nations (that would be the Dragon Lord, the Witch King and the Cloud Lord) had everything going their way this time...

Amroth was kidnapped by the Cloud Lord after failing to double him (I thing I easily had a 1-in-20 chance of success - can't blame me for trying, eh? ;)

The Dragon Lord army was lucky to move before the Sinda intercepting army from Caras Galadhon. So Wodurishak escaped with his army --- and his life.

Orduclax had his lucky charm on him.

Duran managed to capture the Major Town - I have not yet seen the details from that battle but our first guess was that it would be decided on the very small details... Still he did a fine maneuvre through the woods to get there, so he deserved some luck.

And up north... well... let us only say that a few Free People moves did not materialise as we planned them (or ordered them).

So we will count this as a victory for the servants of Sauron in Mirkwood this turn. It is a pity that this is actulally the only front on the map where the Servants don't see their outposts fall one after the other...

Still, I salute you for a good fight - albeit one destined to fail.

Nintelten
24th April 2003, 12:01 PM
Heh. Well I guess you had to try something if you knew I was there :) That is one of the fun things about playing the Cloud Lord. Trying to figure out if you actually know where I am at the time and if you know how many active Agents I actually got going at any given time.

That's twice you've had Agents injured doing stuff :) Better get some better training on them eh?

I did fail one order last turn...so far doesn't look like it was a big impact so that's ok :)

I will say its definitely an interesting game and I'm enjoying it so far. Lots more fun stuff to be coming down the pipes I'm sure.

As for destined to Fail? We shall see....we shall see. Those are some very bold words.

El Gringo

I'll tell you this... we sure didn't count on 2k worth of Dunlending calvary charging up the Ithil pass! :o ... plus you guys are doing a great job of manoevering your troops north of Mordor... every time we think we see a hole, a stinky FP icon shows up there heh ;)

Wonder how many nation leaders we can hold :)

Argeleb II
Amroth
Mahrcared

Got rid of some other big names...seems ok to me heh

Lost another Rhudaur commander...bleah. I had plans for that guy too.

Does the Cardolan like 1614 right now? :D

Elendar

This is a good list of names. Made of all the fine heroes who did their best to invite a dagger in the back, and prevent said dagger from falling somewhere nearer to... say, the Ithil Pass? The attention of your agents seem to be shifting down there eventually, but is too little too late? Maybe the harm is already done? We shall see...

Oh, and snapping your fingers to Khuzadrepa pointing him to Tharbad must not feel the same as having a REAL army burn... say, Dol Guldur? Vamag? Whatever...

But I dare say we have a small insight into some of your plans brewing, and they look impressive. It will bring us great pleasure to tear them to pieces :p

Greetings, everyone,

I was informed that this is the hall where chieftains are challenging kings, and clans of mobs are daring nations. I think I will start watching it more closely, orcs and barbarians never ceased to amuse me...

Elhior

P.S. Great game everyone, I've enjoyed it so far!

P.S.2. I hope you guys continue to offer us a long-expected challenge, we can be very dangerous when we get bored and start seeking new opponents :)

Once upon a time when orcs spoke rhyme…

Presently came along at the gates of Tharbad a bunch of dirty mountain guys, with a Dragon (or two), and knocked at the door, and said, "Cardolani, little Cardolani, let us come in."

To which the Cardolani answered, "No, no, by the hair of my chiny chin chin."

“Then we'll huff, and we'll puff, and we'll blow your house in"

Well, they huffed, and they puffed, and they huffed and they puffed, and they puffed and huffed; but guess what, they could not get the house down.

When they found that they could not, with all their huffing and puffing, blow the house down, they said "... " So, what’s next, you are going to be inviting Cardolani to ”... a nice field of turnips"?

Nice to hear from more of you folks :)

This game is definitely an interesting one. Really enjoying it so far. I wouldn't gloat too much about Dol Goldur (sp). Its what? Turn 8 and you finally did something to get the DL out of Mirkwood. BUT...what's this...the Woodmen are pretty much outta Mirkwood too? heh. Tit for tat there I think. Who's to take over that area now? The Witch King? Rhudaur? Maybe Eothraim? If they live long enough :D

Keep up the fight...more will die before this ends!!!

P.S. Leave my CL towns with the Agents or suffer the consequences!!!

Elendar

Well, with the Dragon Lord receiving such help from the Witch King and the Cloud Lord and even the initial push from Rhudaur, it is almost anti-climactic to see that in the end of the day you will have the burning of a major town to show for it (oh, and the reduction of a Major Town to a Town). Surely you must have had visions of Mirkwood domination until a turn ago, with such investment of resources! (the commitment of which is evident by the big hole on the map where Rhudaur/Southern WK used to be).

Oh well, it did the fighting in my neighbourhood a lot more exciting, so I accept the gracious sacrifice on your part ;)

Oh, and I brought more friends here, so your turn now. We need more trash-talking!

Nintelten
20th May 2003, 03:14 PM
Heh! Was fun banter. Trash talking is a totally different ball game :D

I'm just glad you left me alone enough to rebuild alot of Rhudaur. I'm not going to complain about that. Taking a bit of Cardolan's recruit base is a good thing for that area of the map. Having Mirkwood area not much in contention is good as well.

You really think you'll get far in the Ithil Pass? Or are we just tugging you along into a blood bath? Hrm...the possibilities :)

Dathom

Only the great lord Sauron himself can forsee the events of the upcoming fight for Ithil Pass. Perhaps he may even attend the fight in person.

The warriors of Ithil await your onslaught.....do your worst, we are embattled and ready.

PS could you pass a messages to Skarg and Roz, Ren is very disapointed that they were captured so easily.

PPS Din Ohtar says hello.

We have access to more Dragons :) I was just going on the advice of my fellow peeps. All things pointed to a better outcome than that heh. Live and learn...live and learn!

We definitely didn't have the turn we'd hoped for heh Too many injuries!!! :(

El Gringo
29th May 2003, 10:53 PM
Heh, I think this turn our agents were using their rubber knives... and the dragon ditching before the Tharbad combat... oh well :)

I really like the second wave in north harad... it's a little bigger than we thought it could be... fun fun fun!

<<That's twice you've had Agents injured doing stuff Better get some better training on them eh?>>

Hmmm... :)

Duran had to be cut down, after killing Ohtar. Sadly, my list of heroes to be avenged is still long.

I think Khuzadrepa was just teasing you when he said he will join your armies. Be careful of the other dragons you 'have access to', they may be laughing behind your backs too.

On the topic of things that should not have happened ;), the Fire King small army that managed to rush down the pass before any of our armies started moving, figures quite prominently near the top of the list.

Nice job by the 'flying circus' on Aglarond :)

Oh, and I am positive sure we DIDN'T get a rumour about somebody named MarsBar. Then again, the blood-crazed lunatics following the Cloud Lord seem to find it cute to assume hobbit-names, so we shouldn't be surprised with anything ;)

Good game, folks.

Dathom
2nd June 2003, 01:48 PM
I thank you for the compliment in the rapid deployment force that stopped y'all at Ithil....you guys finally managed to burn your own town down, not that you mind all these small armies, your commanders are gaining nice ranks.

Looks like all the agents this turn were taking lessons from Din Ohtar, he's only good with bridges, moving targets are much to difficult for him to hit.

It's not my fault they won't allow 4 letter character names....so i had to add something....MarsBar was the best i could do at the time.

god, 2 weeks takes so long some times!

Nintelten
13th June 2003, 12:26 PM
That was revenge on Duran :) Yes I was really worried about that particular order. Lots was at stake heh.

What now? Apparently Rhudaur is having issues...

Nintelten
26th June 2003, 03:03 PM
Hrm...seems you guys tried again on Ji Indur. That one I wasn't expecting :) I'm just sitting here counting my lucky stars it wasn't sucessful.

I'm gonna admit I think we had a LOT of luck this turn so far that I've seen. Some big unexpected results.

Sorry about Morrigan :P (but you know how I like Agent Artifacts) I'll make sure it gets good use.

Wow about Erestor. Talk about a surprise. Apparently that risk didn't work in your favor.

Still far from over...will see how things fair this upcoming turn.

Elendar
26th June 2003, 03:48 PM
Well, Erestor dies to a challenge gone awry (note down Hoarmurath's challenge rank to tell us after we're finished :), Ji Indur gets away with it yet again, our agent dies in Lug Ghurzun... perhaps we should give up on the character game and stick with the military which treats us somewhat better ;)

The question is, can you translate your huge character advantage into military successes? That will be the interesting thing to watch in the upcoming turns. As it stands now, Angmar looks more or less secure for us, Mirkwood is secure, Harad has suffered some crippling blows (if that can be said about any blows to that nation) and you get pushed further and further down the Ithil Pass into Mordor.

Only Rhovanion/Rhun is a mess, but you need to win more fronts. Perhaps your character superiority will hand these to you. Perhaps not... Nail-biting!

Great game,

El Gringo
