Brad Brunet, he of the Return from Grave and Kill Dragon orders.........
I am currently in 2 games Deft is running, and I wonder when we
will get clarification on exactly when the change will take place?
I already have orders in for supposed processing over the next
couple of weeks by Deft..........
Also, one of those games is a 1 weeker....do you folks run
them? If not, will you maintain the ones currently running?
Also, (sorry to trouble y'all so...), I am a member of a grudge
team currently awaiting challengers.......we are 12 Freeps
awaiting 12 DS in a 2 week turn-around. We have been
debating our neutral team members.........would a 12-12
game (1650) have predetermined (by the moderator) neuts, or
would it be possible to have a lottery between team captains
where we select our extra allies.......?
And....would our team info be forwarded on to Harley by Deft,
or do we have to set up again?
Thank you for the venue! While, the 37 emails I ended up with
this evening was a little cumbersome, it's nice to see staff
replying! We have the Deftgaming.com message boards where,
honestly, we do have some slightly "un"civil humoid-types, but
we NEVER hear from the people running the show!
BTW - anyone who can get a 12 man 2 week DS team off the
ground, get back to me at ditletang@... and I will
hook you up with our captain!
(yes, Canada! - there are a few of us!)

Hi,
The change has occurred. We took everything from Deft exactly, so your turns
are being input right about now.

We will run the 1 week game, no problem. We have not run them much in the
past due to a lack of interest from our players, but if US players like the
1 week format, we'll run it.

I can't answer that. Clint will.

We will have it. I suspect that we'll delay dealing with new games until
we've run one turn for all the other games and dealt with any teething
troubles. However, once Stuart arrives, he'll know all about the games
waiting to start and can make sure everything goes smoothly.

Yes we do variants on this already wherebey the Easterlings are removed from
the game and the other Neutrals are set up. Corsairs an Dun are FP, Rhudaur
and Harad are DS. Other variants are allowed of course.

be done before that though.

Ben Shushan, player of several years w/ both DGE (and GSI, prior to that) and
Harlequin.
I wanted to take a minute to make a "general observation" and to discuss the
possible effects on one-week play that this consolidation may have ...
My 2 cents worth on the "consolidation" of DGE and Harlequin (I refer to them as
"Harly" most of the time): this has the _potential_ to provide the "best of both
worlds" - Harly's "administration" combined with the added player base depth of
DGE (larger, and more experienced).
Harlequin has always provided excellent service, swiftly and with lots of
communication (not a knock on DGE, just an endorsement of Harly). If the
(mostly US-based) DGE player base can get comfortable with them (they do things
a bit differently, but every single one makes for a better game, in the long run
- IMHO - give their way of doing things a chance, and most of you will like it),
we will all win with this change.
On the other hand, there is a _much_ deeper player base from DGE (and formerly
GSI), with tons of experience. For example, I know there are several grudge
teams that are comprised of long-time players who only play grudge games. And
they've only ever known GSI/DGE as the moderator, so that's who they've always
dealt with. And the other "regular-game" players would never have come across
these players, unless they happened to get into a grudge game against them.
Another, dear-to-my-heart, issue are one-week games. Specifically, there are
very few "mostly Harlequin" players who like one-week games - I am currently
participating in what I believe to be the _only_ "normal" (i.e., non-grudge)
one-week game Harly has ever run ... (not sure on this - feel free to correct me
Sam/Rob/Clint ...). Further, there has been _no_ interest from the "Harly
player base" (I put this in quotations because, of late, there has been more and
more cross-over) in one-week grudge games. As the captain of TWO (count 'em)
different grudge teams looking for one-week grudge team opponents, I am hopeful
that the combined player bases will generate enough interest for more one-week
grudge teams to form ...
Conversely, DGE (to my knowledge) has always had enough interest in one-week
games to have at least an average of one one-week-turnaround game going at a
time ... sometimes two or even three, tho' never more than one in a given
scenario (exceptions being "long-running games" that may be winding down just as
a new one is about to start ...). This made (makes) for alot of "in-breeding"
in the one-week player pool. I am also hopeful that this trend will improve
(for me, that means more one-week players, and games:) with the consolidation of
player bases.
If anyone wants to contact me directly to discuss anything related to DGE,
Harly, my experiences with either/both, etc., in private, please do so. I am
happy to help formerly-US-only players get more comfortable with Harlequin in
any way I can (no, I don't get a "commission" - my self-interest is in the
player-pool strengthening issues discussed above).
I, for one, am greatly lookig forward to what I see as a fantastic _opportunity_
for MEPBM to get even better, and gain momentum to keep improving.
b (Ben Shushan)
ps Definitely looking for two different one-week grudge team opponents
a) 10-player team, 2950, we'll play either side; and,
b) 12-player team looking to play either 2950 allegiance or 1650 DS - we just
finished playing 1650 freep which is the only reason we don't want to play that
- neutrals open to discussion/debate/specific agreement ...
Please contact me directly.

Hya Ben - did you send this to the DGE message board as well? I have sent
it there ( I trust that is okay - with my reply). Thanks for the comments.
There is minimal interest in the one week games - but there is some
interest. With that in mind if there is a player base we will continue to
support it! Over the next few months, (and years) I can see the games
mingling so that there should be a greater variety of options. One thing
that does seem pretty disastrous is the long wait for a game with DGE - upto
9 months - that's something that we want to address if at all possible.
I am aware that players don't like change - but we think that it will be
mostly for the better. Part of the reason for Stu coming over is that we
are aware that this will provide continuity - the major change being
location - which for most players should have minimal impact. (The ones it
does impact we think it should be able to sort something out).

Damn presumptuous of you! JK (Thanks, didn't think of it. Just don't use the
DGE boards much anymore ...)

Welcome. Again, careful what you wish for ... :)

More in US than UK. Talk w/ Stuart about this, s.v.p. ... (now, _that_ should
add a little language barrier to this whole mess ... :):)

Again, more than you'd think, based on your mostly non-US experience. We US,
MTV-generation (and younger) types want what we want - and we want it now!
(Read: ADD = one-week preference:). "Instant gratification is too slow."
> With that in mind if there is a player base we will continue to support it!
I know. My comments weren't aimed at you - they were aimed at the DGE (and even
GSI) players unfamiliar with you lot in Wales.
For those unfamiliar, there's one basic rule about Harly, and what they'll do
(you'll have to insert your own caveats, Clint):
For £3.90 (approx. $5.95 these days ...), they will do _anything_.
It's beautiful ... they're cheap _and_ easy. :):):):)
Hey Clint, got any nieces? (Adopted, preferably, having seen your snapshot from
that Flagship convention ...) :):)

Exactly! That's the "opportunity" - the risk is resistance to change. My
message was intended to help start the "change process" in some small way ...

Key, for MEPBM as a game to survive. Glad you agree.

This is true. It is literally impossible to tell the difference for those who
are "pure emailers" like myself (except for the occasional piece of mail w/ odd
postage ... usually know it's from those crazy guys in Cardiff ...). Of course,
I avoid games that have even a single snail-mailer like the plague (that they
are, to a well-run team anyway ... :).

URGH!!!!!!!!

Well more or less - we tried bringing ethics into business but it seemed to
fail. :-)

Yep - heh I am the most attractive of the Harly lot (well in my LTHO) Best
ask the missus though. Nieces nope - but more cousins than I know the names
for now - last count went upto around 40ish (half female)

Yep - been here before - very correct.

yes - we'll have to chat to players - more options does not necessarily
equate to more choice - so more choice (eg 1 wk pink garter game with only
players who have played 2.54 turns on a Wednesday) are all well and good but
if it takes 9 months to set-up (around the length of time of pregnancy!)
then there are going to be some seriously unhappy players.

hundred times then you can yawn... :-)
