there is a old site (which still works) that talked
about all the movies that were made. I suggest
starting there.

I don't have the address, so you will have to look :)

Once you have a list of what was made, you can then
try to track them down using the net.

A quicker way would be to ask a tolkien group.

thanks

Do you know that there were 3 movies produced during the late 1970's.

There was the second part of the part cartoon called "Return of the King"

This company also did "The Hobbit"

Both are not too bad considering the time difference.

I have both if anyone is interested?

Colin >>

Oops,
I never knew there were any movies after the first part. I would definitely
be interested in them.
Cheers,

Marco

I have all the movies on tape. They are:

The Hobbit by Rankin Bass. Its fabulous. Gandalf's voice is forever imbedded
in my brain. I have the sing-a-long book (!) and wish I had the full record
version of the film. Wonderful, just wonderful. "Down Down to Goblin Town"
is a riot!

Lord of the Rings by Ralph Bakshi. Hated by many, and do I mean H-A-T-E-D,
although I think unfairly. Bakshi is one of those "love him or hate him"
kind of guys. Personally, I really enjoy his work, so for me it was a hoot.
Given the technology back then, extremely impressive! The biggest problem
is how "shadowy" they made the orcs. Never NEARLY enough definition. The
stills of the Balrog are very cool, but in the show, it comes off weak.
Also, the Boromir vs. the Orcs is STUNNINGLY good animation. The soundtrack
is AWESOME. For the non-human crowd, you can call this the "Orc Sound of
Music"! (You are 16, I have a big sword...) It ends with the battle for
Helm's Deep. There was some kind of deal that kept Ralphy from doing part
two. More than anything, it proved to me this is a trilogy and should be
filmed as one...

Return of the King by Rankin Bass. Picks up RIGHT after the Lord of the
Rings. In many ways, this is the best and worst of the three. On one hand,
the Rankin Bass animation style, which so PERFECTLY worked for the Hobbit,
just can't handle the darkness of the end of the trilogy. On the other hand,
the production qualities and voice overs are excellent. The music worked
only slightly less effectively here, than in the Hobbit. However, I still
thoroughly enjoyed the use of the music as a counter point to the battle for
the soul of the ring-bearer.

These are Fun Fun Fun. Pop the Corn, Pour the Pop and hit the PLAY button!
