View Full Version : Game 86... turn 2, and Erestor took a dirt nap

I'll bet that the Noldo player felt a sinking feeling in his stomach today, right about the time he looked at his turn and got to the combat section. It must hurt to have already lost the FP's #2 mage and #2 emmy on turn 2. But don't worry, I'll put the little trinket I found on his corpse to good use.

And try as the mighty Noldo might to keep his little army alive with those defensive spells, it was all for naught. In fact, I should probably thank you. My army would've been useless after combat, but since you made my boys work overtime to kill off your elves, there weren't enough left to continue to party so the survivors decided to go home for some rest and relaxation. That'll save me a disbanding order this turn...

I hope the rest of the FP turns were as good as the Noldo's... :D

Until we meet again...

To the Danish team:

You guys out there? Things are going very badly for your side. You are doomed. There is no hope. You should give up. The path to victory is impossible for you. The dark clouds of Mordor are spreading fast and will shortly consume all of Middle Earth. Surrender now and bow down to Sauron. You are slaves and nothing more. The only alternative is death.

The Voice from Fangorn

Middle earth is preparing for the first big battles, I can see that clearly. My old friend Erestor will never again walk the forests of Fangorn, what a pity, I shall miss him dearly. Just a few days ago I heard some hasty words from Mordor, I think they came from the mouth of the Clouded Nazgul. He claimed victory even as only few battles were fought and these ended mostly in the favour of the sun loving children. He must be definitely hasty. As for the Dragon Lords murder of Erestor, Celedhring we must have last chat here in Fangorn. I heard to my great pleasure that Goblin Gate has been destroyed by a big bunch of axe wielding dwarfs, this is very much to my liking to see axes decapitating foul creatures and not biting my beloved trees, now my old friend has been partly avenged. In the west I see a great army of several free nations trying to teach the renegades of Rhudaur a lesson, so much for choosing the path of darkness. My travelling friends told me of the liberation of 2 minor artefacts, if I remember rightly, it’s funny why they went through so much trouble. On the part of the elfhewer I see that the name is evil, but why this Nallagurth thing I cant understand. By the way I heard the tale of the sleeping Murazor: In the middle of a dark moonless night a newly trained agent walked into camp of an Witch King army, every foul creature was exhausted after fighting a small, but valiant dwarwen army. Our agent unluckily chooses to enter from the downwind direction, the stench almost knocked him out, but it was the stink that guided our hero directly to Murazor. He was lying facedown in a hole in the ground, now the stench was affecting the senses of the inexperienced agent and having been ordered to steal something from Murazor, but unable to remember what, he took the Mace on which Murazor revolting head rested. He stirred a bit and muttered something, but now the agent stood with the Mace in his hand and gave him a parting gift on his already deformed head. The blow was powerless, but taking the circumstances into account it was still impressive. Stumbling out of camp he tripped over several smelly heaps on the ground, some of them alive. After running home he burned his clothes and took the longest bath ever recorded in middle earth. With satisfaction I heard about the battles in which the armies of the Witch King were destroyed. The Noldos slew a group of mounted scouts and the Woodmen wiped the forces of Durkarian, although coming too late to the relief of Buhr Fram. The sons of Eorl are making some great contributions to the dismay of Mordor and from the Northmen I only hear they had some uninvited guest that behaved poorly. From the Dúnedain of Gondor there are alarming news, Minas Ithil has fallen into hands of the foul servants of Sauron and Osgiliath has become the place were next election of Miss Mordor most likely is to be held, or was it Miss Gondor. The news from distant places in the south reports of great armies fighting the evil Harad and winning and again the choosing of dark path is always dangerous. Funny thing though is why the Dog Lord fled into the mountains, but that matter will soon be much clearer.

wow,
i think i'm aroused. you write with flair. stealing nallagurth from me was a bummer. sending what, 20k plus troops at rhudar was impressive. the 4k noldo troops at near 0709 is a nice touch. sending the dwarves overland into rhudar, genius.
you've moved a huge number of troops into angmar, to crush saurons hand in the north. of course, the game is decided by the freeps crashing into, or failing to crash into, mordor. if i may be so bold, right army, wrong battlefield. this will be a difficult, challenging game. excellent.

Hi There

I for my part hope that this game drags out in the warlike kind of way, may it be by armies or characters. I hate to see players fold, because they had a few early setbacks. smuller I concur, it will be an interessting game, Elrond/CL you havent won yet and last but not least Josh, you did some nasty inroads on our Character sheets.

The Voice from Fangorn

I just had a pleasant conversation with Gwaihir this morning; he had many a thing to tell. He had tracked the first Nazguls moves and it seems he is running for his life and into trouble. Rogrog will loose his army, Mt. Gundabad, deserted by the army that could have done the difference, will feel the wrath of the mighty Woodmen, who are still seeking revenge for the genocide of Buhr Fram. Rhudaur got the beating well deserved and there is more were that came from. Usually I am not hasty at all, but in near future I see the liberation of the people of Rhudaur from the junta, that choose the ill path to wander. I wonder, will their master in Mordor provide them with lodgings or is it the more likely approach, punishment for failure, eternal suffering, agony in the twilight between life and death. The same fate is about to hit the guards of Morannon, the poor bastards forgot to close the gates in the evening and the next morning they were not alone. I can feel the rage that moves Sauron; he now doubts the wisdom of his decisions. His first moves where not a complete failure, he did cripple some of his foes, but somehow decisive success eluded him so far. The eye he has cast on Osgiliath, the first victory fell to the Gondors. Can he break this proud City, will his smelly minions feast on the flesh of the Dúnadain, will victory be his, will there be some nasty surprise, he knows not. There are still some unanswered questions about the mountaineering Gûrthlug and Tónn Varthkûr, I hoped to see that mystery solved by now. In the south Barbarella's army sacked the Town of An Zalim and the seventh Nazguls Major Town Vamag is now a very quiet and pleasant ruin. In north the Harad are being smashed and sacked by the brave Dúnadain lead by Celdrahil, keep up the good work.

yep.
i'm depressed. the woodmen pushed a lot of troops up into 2305...didn't think he had the finances to do the deed at 2305 and 2715. heres to you woodmen, i been hoodwinked.

rhudar..
you sent what, the duns, the cardy, the arthedain, and the dwarves...its supposed to be a white wash. i'm more impressed with the cardy getting all that firepower into 1510. i need to get you off my email. again, well done.

but dont for 1 second think this anywhere near the end... the down side with respect to the free side keeping the market inflated is its nearly impossible to eliminate the dk side via economics. so, will you have enough troop strength to kill me off, or will i have enough cash to upgrade lotsa things to m towns.
the game isn't won by the evils in angmar, its lost by the freeps.
and dont forget the 3k noldo troops, and the woodmen stack at 2305. your spending a lot of effort, in a region far from mordor.

Hi smuller

Im sure that thiz was no insult at all, our cardy (fupstein is not cardy) played lots of strategics involving wwii, most prominent East Front and WiF.
Please don´t refer to all american sports like baseball and such; its like cricket to us (in)continental europeans (maybe you americans alike, the cricket part that is), we just don´t get it. We´re more comfortable with raiding, sacking, leaking and destruction; a tradition of old.
You may feel the light closing in on you, well you are the surprised nextdoor dude, it may be curtains for you. I hope not, I´am short of communicative foes and I will miss you, Witchy, as dearly as Erestor.

And once again Fangorn shares his views with you

The tales from the wooden men seems to be a bit hasty, Mount Gundabad is still in hands of the first Nazgul. Why did they leave Dol Guldur, that was not as I expected it to be. The unbidden guest in Morannon made themself at home, I pity the gatekeepers. Osgiliath has survived, a wanderer from the south told me. It seems that it is a bit too strong for the creatures of Sauron.
The liberation of the peoble of Rhudaur is following the plans agreed upon by Arthedain, Cardolan, Dwarfs and Dunland. It seems a bit unfair, four against one, but it is not. Funny part is Rhudaur is figthing alone, none of his foul allies is coming to his aid. With Rhudaur out, there will be no one to help the first Nazgul. It seems that the Dark ones prefer playing the markets and dont bother too much about armies of their own. They are going to die quick but rich.

Fangorn:D

In spite of the lack of listeners Fangorn insist on sharing his views with himself.

It seems that Rhudaur has friends or at least one. Is the first Nazgul going soft on his old days or is just gone decadent with all the riches he has gained manipulating the market. Now it is clear to me why this Nallagurth was so important. My new friend, the agent who relieved Murazor of a special burden, has done it again. This time it was not Murazor, but Orduclax who got some unwanted attention. Here it goes: After having slept the day away under a rotten tree he rose late. He brushed his his teeth with a skunk, refreshed his face with some new mud and felt fit for fight. He got eerie feeling of bieng watched, but he was not able to find this watcher. He was now more keen on learning some nasty curse spells than finding out who this pair of eyes belonged to. He set out after eating the last slab of horsemeat, cursing himself; why did I have to slaughter my horse, now I have to walk all the way home. He passed through a wood, thinking of his new toy Elenruth, it was a sword with inscriptions on the blade. Suddenly he heard something move, turned around but there was nothing to be seen. He walked on and after a while he felt the urge to look at his new toy, but it was gone and the belt with it (that explains all the tripping and stumbling that he expierienced the last hour or so). He cursed himself the second time and retraced his steps. He found the belt and with it the purse where he kept his toothbrush. Contending himself with his refound possessions mumbling; I at least got my odoriferious toothbrush back.
Oh by the way, I got a message from Hallas, he is very thankfull and sends his regards to Rhudaur for a good unfair fight, it was most rewarding. I have the feeling that he likes the proper application of an overwhelming force. Things in Northgondor are going well, circumstances permitting. The big Doglord mounteneering mystery has been solved, they returned and are getting ready to kill off two small armies, but what are they up to after that. Osgiliath is still going strong, it is a fine and mighty City. It seems that our esteemed enemy, the Haradwaith, is being slowly eroded. He will not be able to hurt our friends in the south.

And Fangorn tells his tale to the trees (they cant run away, ha)

The Rhudaur campaign is almost over for time being, the Northmen joined the fray, in, how appropiate, the north. All whats left is a mopping up operation in which the small nest of resistance are being destroyed. Now at last Mirkwood can lay of the evil which touched it and in due time it will once again be known as Greenwood. The lord of the Dragons has returned to Mordor allthough not of his own free will. The Sindas are working overtime just to make Dol Guldur Habitable, removing the grime, grit and stench so they can have a memorable victory party. The Dwarves ran away, leaving the dirty work to Sindas, but I cant blame them, their noses are much closer to the ground. This summer will be the last the First Nazgul resides in Angmar and peace and prosperity will soon return. The Corsairs havent been lazy, they will liberate Sûkh Akhôr in a few days. And then again this summer will certaily be last for the Harad along the shores.

Fangorn just finished his last tale and is about to begin his new one when he discovers that all the trees around him have gnawed their ears off.

What was the name of that creature trying to steal something special from Elrond, ahh Fenring, he is still alive I hear, but I am not entirely sure about that he will remain so. It seems someone stirred the wasp nest, pocking a stick in, twisting a bit and finally they stream out to the borders of Mordor. Something was odd though, they could not find the the Gates of Mordor, Morannon was gone, what was this all about. Did someone play a clean trick on them, will they be able to reinstate their precious defensive gates, before the next echelon of the superior free armies stream through. Or are they trying to find some nice habitable swamp outside Mordor, as it is getting rather crowded on the inside. Questions, questions, but no answers in sight.

sometimes the fates favor, sometimes they do not. you swiped nallagurth from murazor on turn 2, and we tried on elrond. the fates favored you, and they frowned on the evils. despite all your banter, the game continues. in this game, time is an ally to servants of sauron.you have earned many victories, and many breaks have gone your way. still, we battle you everywhere, and the clock runs the race, in our favor.

Fangorn, now thoroghly depressed, talks to the birds.

What is this, the minions of Sauron roaming "freely" and unchecked on the plains of Eothraim. The wicked Witch King on the shores as a fifth columnist. Beware of the poisonous darts, little they may seem but as lethal as a mallet in an able hand. Murazor is now checking up on lost property in Angmar. Paying a visit to all the places where his former armies are now fertilizers. It must be a grandiose expierience, from dark to light, from gray to green, from smelly to scented, nature recovers fast. Finally the Long Riders decided to step ashore, must have been nice to sail the sea of Rhun, a vacation lasting at least 4 months. I say, Din Ohtar knows how to motivate his hordes.

Fangorn:rolleyes:

Oh well, I am out of touch with reality a nice little birdy tells me. The not so short evil horsemen army did not enjoy a cruise, they have only seen the barren wastes of Mordor. I once again overestimated the cunning of Saurons minions.:D

Fangorn, now back to his own self, had had some friends over on a cup of Entdraught:p

I was a bit hasty last time, Saurons Minions roaming the plains freely and unchecked, ha! It seems now that they will be cut down by the thousands or at least to a manageable size, did someone mention worthless? I heard some reports of 2 evil mages early retirement and rumors about a army commander loosing both his command and life. I expect some more news soon about this last matter. My count says 3 minions down and only one free harmed. This is more like it should be. Hallas sent a messenger and his tale was a good one. He told that Hallas liberated a former town called Revenge, funny name I say. The best part is that the first Nazgul had stashed away some steel there. He may see it again soon, but then forged into weapons and armor. With enemies like that who needs friends, I ask You. But then again we got both kinds. Well I have dinner invitation and it would rude to get there late.

loke,

your side is doing a wonderful job at hounding me. i am dissappointed it takes you so long to discover what i'm saying. why, exactly, would i leave 3500 steel in a village. cause i had to buyout my share, and that prevent me from moving out of the hex. this was necessary at 0916 cause there were freeps on all my po pcenters. while i was pretty certain 2004 was gonna fall, i could chance you dying on the walls to siege it, and missing the buy attempt. so i took one for the team.
threats have gone very bad for me this game, with a c-30 winning over a warlord at 2004, missing at 3002, your unbelievable success at 2703, adn all the loot that gain your northmen.
the woodmen did a very commendable job killing 2305. massing your forces vs the rhudar was executed very cleanly. i knew it was coming, but theres little to be done to stop that, without dragons. well played.

The voice of Fangorn once again sounds all over Middle Earth:rolleyes:

Finally someone did wake up the Cloud Lord, although delayed he let loose his dreaded agents against the the Eothraim, 2 dead and one in the sack, not bad for one who just got up. What is the use of taking hostages when they are freed at once, I will spare you and not tell the tale of Leorics rescue, its a good one where Uklurg ends up with a pointy thing in his eye. That is only the killing of our brothers another thing is to get the armies in the right place, well some there are, most of them will never do any harm, the hosts which flowed out of Mordor are no longer. What a rabble the Dark Lieutenants send against the mighty Woodmen, they were shortly amused and left them to the vultures. Thuringwarthost will fall once again, the renegade Ûrzahil will have to keep a proper distance to the unnamed if he has any wish of living and see Mordor free. The fall of Minas Anor was a victory the Free lost, but it will be short for them who follow the lidless eye. With the Witch King back in Mordor there might be some opposition now, but still it is far better to have him routed from Angmar, than being an undead pain in our bottoms. Who will be the next returning spirit to enter Mordor or fail to do so, we still remember the filthy Rhudaur, or is he just lost like tears in rain -in our memories.

I condemn this beating, the first Nazgul lies face down in the gutter and still theres someone eager to deal out a punch up his conck. In this I see no honour, well, lest it speeds the demise of the minions. They murder our nobles, its sad to loose good men and women to their sneaky beast, but it cant be helped. We have plenty more, eager to fill the vacancies our valiant and dead friends left open. I ask you my frieds, what is the use of killing armycommanders with no troops left at their command, I will tell you, it is the hunt for souvenirs. Not far from now they will bring home many of tokens of their victories and with it the tidings of defeat.

Fangorn is pleased by certain things and tells his tale.

The punching up the conck on Witchy was not an easy matter after all, one failure sneaked in at least. Now that he is finally Mordorized, the cleansing of his former possesions is just a question of time. His roaming hordes on the plains are now facing the might of Cardolan and this is a battle lost. Ohh yes, Urzahil will have to face his choosen master and tell him what will have happened to Minas Anor and Osgiliath: the uncorking of Mordor is now in progress. Uklurg will never raise an army in the defence of Mordor, he deserted the evil course with a little help of his "friends", and there was one who stole the gold intended to fund his new army.

Fangorn greets his allies and foes alike:D

Ahh, dear children of the sun and creatures of the dark, Osgiliath is in the right hands once again and so will Minas Anor be in time coming. The fumes and odors from Mordor are loosing their power that is for certain. The murdering hordes of the Dark Master will have every opportunity served at their feet from now on, we will follow the narrow passes which lead to the foul heart of Mordor. It migth not be the last trust, but still more than the Dark Lord bargained for at this time. Was some kind of surprise and I hope it was a good one too hahahihihahoo. The remaining rabble of Mordor is now at Minas Ithil, what will they do there, make a last stand, die or lead another forray into North Gondor, who is to know.

Fangorn, somewhat bored

Where is Murazors voice now, has it been silenced? Has his laughter reached its end? This can not be, Minas Anors fall was just a reminder to the traitor Urzahil that the Dark Master is not unfailible, that it might be that he gave his loyalty to the loosing side. Many assassins are upon us, but where are the armies to exploit the openings due to their effort? Mmhaha Mordor is besieged and who is to lift it? I regrett all the lives lost in this struggle, but we will remember their noble deeds for many generations to come.

Hi Barwyn

Welcome to Angmar or rather the frozen outskirts of it. Now this turn looks like a quite good one for the freeps, at least 3 DS armycoms have been flattened along with their armies. I must admit Im surprised, didnt know the Arthedains had feet of that size. Havent yet seen all the pdf´s, but it seems that for change there are a few more dead DS chars than there are free. The borders of Mordor are not secure anymore, Morannon is doomed once again and the Minas Ithil meatgrinder is now turning againts the hordes of Mordor. Inside Mordor your armies are loosing their commanders and thats bad news with all our troops about to enter.

Good gaming

But the foothold in the south seems to be slipping for all of you, or?

Well it has been a fun game, but the end seems to be near!!!

Fangorn is in the mood:D

Osgiliath is a most interessting place, many a thing has happened there. It may be a flat feeling for some of the minions and maybe their obsession with it might spell their downfall. With Hoarmurath as the most powerfull minion guarding the northwestern path into Mordor, a great burden has been placed on his shoulders, will he be able to do what the Dark Master has in his mind? Who is to know and what is this poor fellow to face if he fails, maybe he will live, maybe not. He is not the most fortunate Nazgul, one of his agents lost his life, the other just wasnt good enough and got a small reminder. Oh ah and speaking of "failures" how are you Urzahil, this was a rotten turn, being flattened, plundered, flattened, assassinated and flattened (not Gothmog or was it(unlikely)). The same fate might have hit Tonn V., still we dont know, but if it is so, there are some thoughts in it or am I mistaken. Hargrog has certainly met his match, he didnt see it coming did he:cool:.

Hi There

Elrond and Speedracer75, now that smuller has left after defending Angmar to the last, the communications are somewhat; quiet. Bearing in mind Elronds challenge, Im somewhat disappointed of the number of postings (1 each). So guys get on with it.

Happy new Year

They have probably left as well, those guys had never lost a game, remember? This may be their way to ensure they never do!

wow,
i'll assume by the banter the game goes poorly for the dark side. kinda lost my focus( in part no doubt from the freep unrelenting attack).i must contact my friends to discover if this is true. i haven't missed this game, as i played well at times, and poorly at others. and yes, i have lost a game, both often and infrequently.

Fangorn makes once again a little announcement

This is funny, the best way to kill a Nazgul is not with weapons or magic, make him lie down, march an army over him and he is gone.

Once again Fangorn has an urge to speak

The Blue Ring is only the 4th curse arty stolen by our kind, it is just a reminder that nil is safe at the hands of the Evil Master. Beware, you will loose many useless arties in time coming. Guard Tinculin at your best, as it is your last curse arty and you may surely regret the loss of it; in time. First Bolvag (Evil Homer) and then Fëagwath, Urzahil you are the only mage left, with a decreasing number of Nazguls at your service, what will you tell the your master. It is only a temporary setback will do for now, but..........what?

Fangorns maybe last speach:D

Its becoming mighty still, are the minions finally subdued? As I am not hasty by nature it is my honest oppinion that there is something dreadfully wrong somewhere. Is the resolve of the Dark Lord wavering, has he lost his will to enslave my friends, to conquer their lands and be the master of their fates? Many questions which seek answers are on my barky lips and still no coward steps forth to resolve them! Is it the coming day that will force the minions to concede?

Who is to know?

Fangorn is back after an interessting conference in Casablanca:D

After long and fruitfull talks with the alliance of the free, we decided on future course of this war. The first part was very easy, it was about a phrase consisting of only two words, the second part was more longish, but after a week or two we concluded to meet again at Yalta to resolve the unfinished.
