RD: I did NOT make a jibe at the Irish. Somebody mentioned the Irish
nation, and all I did was point out that there was no Irish nation until the
British goverment granted independence to Eire early 20th century. Before
that time Ireland was either under British rule or before that, divided into
independent provinces.

I was stating a simple political fact. I wasn't being racist, derogatory,
patronising, insulting or making a jibe.

I find much to admire in Irish culture. Apart from Enya, Clannad and
Guinness, Eire is probably the only country in the world where you can put
down "poet" for your occupation and have it accepted.
