View Full Version : Game 88 Quit picking on Harad!

Freeps,

Tsk, Tsk, so that's why you wanted Harad in the DS camp to start. Well, it will be interesting to see how the strategy pans out. Its going to be hard on NG, losing all those pop centers right off the bat.

Can't wait to see what surprises turn 2 produces!

Hi Jim,

That's not why we wanted Harad in the DS camp we wanted the normal split of neutrals. Still we have made plans accordingly and as you say it makes life harder for Norht Gondor. Still you can't win in every theatre at the start and you have to make a call as to where to send resources. In this case you can see what we decided. Still things look interesting after turn 1 and I can't wait to see what surprises occur on turn 2.

Hope Ulfacs feeds the fishes well

Heres to a good one.

You are right, I am afraid, Ulfacs days are numbered (down to a couple I think). Of Course, Cirdan might get a little banged up too. He is outnumbered 3 or 4 to one, sometimes army commanders don't survive odds like that.

Anybody in Cirdan's army with him?

Hum anybody with Cirdan? Now that would be telling. Is he a "Billy no mates" or are there others to thwart your plans?

Well we will just have to wait and see

J.S.

What a bummer. Cirdan got off without a scratch. (You freeps are up 2-0 on dead characters.)

I guess I should amend the subject line to add stop picking on the Dragon Lord as well.

Jim

PS "Billy no mates"?

John S
13th June 2003, 12:50 PM
2-0 it is then. Who was that stranger hanging around near the woods? We didn't see him and we having a hell of a time getting the debris off our boots.

"Billy no mates" is an expression meaning "a person who has no friends".

Cirdan was looking forward to spending sometime with the Rhudaur commander but sorry he had to leave on other business.

The next turn looks like it could be fun. Lets see if you can even up the score.

Cheers

Interesting, Indeed! Northern Gondor is bleeding from numerous wounds, and only the demolition of the bridges has prevented a spear thrust into its' vitals.

NG must really be feeling like a, how do you say it? "Billy no mates"?

I'm betting that there are going to be a few key Freep bodies gathering worms at the end of turn three. Maybe we'll even that 2-0 deficit up a bit, Wot?

Looking forward to the continued fray.

Now who would have thought that with this opening strategy we wouldn't drop the bridges. (I'm so glad those orders worked or we would have had a few problems!!!)

N Gondor is just going through a down sizing exercise. It will be meaner and leaner later in the game because of it.

So you hope to even up the score. Any FP candiadates you would care to name? I suspect you may need a few kills to keep up with us.

Well,

Bain I was a good start!

Jim,

I don't think that the capture of Urgubal is really a match for Bain I

I think we will have to give that round to you but the score is still 3-1 to the FP

I'm thinking that Bain I was just what Jim said: A good start.
Keep looking toward the undying lands, Oh ye of the west, because those lands are the only places where your characters will be "undying". Or should that be "not dying"?

Anyway, I am looking forward to the results of turn 4. Two weeks seems like a very long time.

3-1? Don't count Urgubal out yet. He is only captured, and I have a 50/50 chance of killing the commander holding him. Any guesses as to who will catch SARS this turn! I may be outnumbered four to one, but mirkwood is mine! You will NEVER be rid of me!! HA!!!

Dread Dan, I doubt that your chances are that good. First no one holds Urgubal or didn't you know that. Has he deserted? Thanks by the way. SARS indeed, 4 or 5 mages to kill a single character, now that is really efficient use of your high level mages. It won't save Dol Guldur or Goblin Gate. Even if you are sucessful I will trade any of my commanders for the fall of Dol Guldur and consider it profitable. Do your worst.

Brent Percival
3rd July 2003, 03:02 AM
Ever wonder why it takes 4 or 5 to effect a kill? Maybe it's because we aren't wasting the big guns on such puny targets as Bain I. Sure we need the SARS virus now, but soon we will just utter a few 4-letter words, and the weakling Freep commanders will die of fright at the mere sound of our voices.

THE END OF DAYS IS NEAR!!!

Surrender now to the might of the east. The patience of Lord Sauron grows short (Or is it thin? I can never remember.) Surely even ignominious surrender is better than being staked out on one of the many anthills of darkest Mordor, hearing only the lamenting of your womenfolk as a dirge.

Geez, this trash talking is fun! Looking forward to results of turn 4.

Go Dread Dan, go!

Cmon Brent; of course you are. To get 200 points of curse power you know you are using at least four fifty point mages. To curse Bain to death last turn you had a couple of curses and a couple of sicknesses. You haven't had time to learn more and transfer Nallagurth or fetch another artifact and learn more. It was impressive that you did cobble together a team of Spirit Mastery casters by turn 3, don't sully that by lies.

Go ahead tie them up. It won't stop the damage to the Dragon Lord will it? Those commanders can be replaced faster than Major towns and for a lot less gold. Have a good turn.

Its official. The World Health Organisation has decided that SARS is under control. Does this mean that the FP can relax? I hope so.

Anyway we are still up on the body count so far. Lets see what Monday brings!!!

Freeps,

Ouch, three more freeps down and the sole DS convict escaped. Looks like SARS is still strong in middle earth. Wonder who will get infected next. The line favorites are Argeleb (who is being a real pain) and Elwrong (who has made his first cameo appearance of the game. Brave Elrond.)

The tally is now 4 to 3.

Jim,

Obviously you are so pleased you had to say it twice. OK so things didn't go all our way. I'm a little behind and need to catch up on all the PDF's then I'll tell you how we are going to beat you up.

We lose characters you lose pops, Chilperic was a retireable character he won't be too badly missed. Vagaig, well again it is taking you 4 characters to kill a single character, that is 4 characters who are not progressing in ability. How many places at a time can that curse capability be? Not enough I think. Just how many places to you face threats? Can the Curse Squad defend them all? Come to think of it with Curufin and Ring of Winds and all, things are not that bad I would have expected them to be worse.

I think the loss of his capital hurt the Dragon Lord worse than the loss of Vagaig hurt Gondor. Goblin Gate falls this turn, Dancu will probably lose his army this turn. Rhudaur is being pressured. The Witch King is reduced to raiding as the noose tightens. It's too early for you boys to be crowing?

Dread Dan
10th July 2003, 10:09 PM
Brad,

Who is crowing? From your posts it sounds like this game is an afterthought for you. Make no mistake, you are up against a rough crowd. Losing Dol Goldur by turn four was not in my plans, but you have accomplished no more than any other freep team. I am thoroughly unimpressed by the freep strategy. The Dragon lord is not going away. And the curse sqaud is not just killing commanders, it is eleiminating entire armies. Now that is worth the while. The freeps start with the advantage, if not pressed by turn ten the tide shifts. Again, I am not impressed. Be ready for the tide to turn.

It's a game not life and death.

Facts remain the same though Goblin Gate falls this turn, there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Your capital fell last turn there was nothing you could do to prevent it either. Sure you can extract revenge, kill a commander perhaps an army but your days of having major population centers in Mirkwood are numbered. Your allies will be giving you handouts of population centers I am sure, to keep you alive, and in the game, but you are being forcibly relocated and you are powerless to stop that.

Sorry if that makes you testy. Still it is no reason for you to get upset and personal.

Dread Dan
11th July 2003, 11:19 PM
Brad,

Sorry. Didn't mean to get "personal". Did you take something "personally"? Anyway, I meant no malice. You seem all too ready to point out our losses though. please allow me to mention some of our gains. Despite your earlier posts, Bain, his army, and his artifacts was a big loss. Amroth and his navy are worth mentioning. Eliminating the Eo starting cav at 3120 is a point for us. Getting to ALL the big arties will be nice soon. Remeber, it is only turn four. It takes time to get arties into the game. You are quite right that I am powerless to stop the loss of my major towns in mirkwood. But you are sadly mistaken if you think that will be permanent. And by the by, my teammates are not suporting me. I am doing well enough on my own thank you.

Freeps,

Hey, I thought we were keeping a character tally! Oh well, no matter. The important thing about Bain getting cursed, all the big arties going DS and the impending SARS death of Argeleb is it makes it hard to create a dragon killer. I notice two of my wyrm friends have appearred already. WK and Rhudar are about to go on the dragon infused offensive!

Jim
ps sorry about the double post, I did not think the first one went through! oops.

Jim;

Have to agree with you that our keeping up in the body count will be difficult with you holding RoW, Curufin and shortly Collohwesta. We were not handed a very balanced opening set of skills by our game master. With no artifact locating spells to start with and you having at least 3 mages with access to at least one Spirit Mastery spell more likely 4 with a couple of them having more than just the entry level spell. That is hard to compete with. Still you guys didn't stick around to pick up Bain's artifacts which would have hurt us even more in the long run than losing Bain himself.

We will have to stop the bleeding somehow to survive, but we are working the problem and the game has a long way to go.

Brad

Dread Dan

Is that where #10 went? I do indeed have all the others, but oddly the 900 order did not net that particular artifact. Now I know why. I will have to go through all the trouble of killing another freep to get it now I guess.

Once again, I try to post on this board. Let's see if it works this time.

Well, let's see . . .

I'll bet Amroth wishes he had kept his little elfin mouth shut, how about you? Several hundred waterlogged pointy-eared treehuggers are wishing the same as they march (not float) back to their greenland homes.

Seems like Mahrcared and his pony-floggers ran into a little unpleasant weather on the way to the gates of Mordor. Amazing what a difference a little rain and frost can make in the outcome of a horse race, huh?

Soon all of the hosts of Mordor will be issuing from its gates like ants from an anthill. (You know, one of those things I said I'd be staking freeps out on). All is NOT well, men of the west! Every day our hosts grow stronger. Every day the Anduin looks a little bit narrower. If we just had some boats, we'd be drinking in Minas Anor already! Crap! I wish I had some boats!
