Walking with the Ring

Hi there,
any ideas how to best transport the ring to Barad Dur? I mean, say you are 24 hexes away. Is it best to go 2x12 hexes or 4x6 or whatever other proportion?
I know you can't cast movement spells, and I believe that the farther you travel in one 810, the more you are likely to lose it.
On the other hand, the longer you keep the ring, the more you are likely to lose it.
Can anyone help me to solve this dilemma? Please LMK where your information is from.

Have tried in one game to take big and small steps (6 and 12 hexes) and failed miserably both times, as the ring was lost after one turn of holding on to it.

Seems that it matters more how powerful your char is (Ranks + artifacts). The more powerful he is, the more likely he will be to get corrupted :´|
