I don't have Office 2003 so I can't attest to this, but I was informed
that if you change the extension to .txt (instead of .xml), that it will
work in Automagic. (Something about Office 2003 attempting to reformat
XML files when it opens them.)

As I said, I can't confirm this, but give it a shot and let me know.

Hey Didier --

On my machine I have to change the file extension to .txt from .xml -- I use the .txt copy of the file for Automagic while the .xml file works for Palantir. (I do it by double-clicking on the file, opening it in word or whatever, and then using "save as" to save it with the .txt extension instead of the .xml extension.)

After switching from office 2000 to 2003, I know there is a catch to import
xml files for automagic but forgot what it was.

I would appreciate if any kind soul would remind me what it is ;-).

Just click on it in Windows explorer...wait a second and click it again, you're in the Rename mode, his the left arrow 3 times, delete 3 times, "txt", then Enter 2 times, and repeat down your list of team xmls. Anyone who played video games growing up can rip through 12 or so quite quickly... ;-)

Or, for geeks:

Go to the directory with all your xml's, right click, select New -> Text Document. Call it rename.cmd
Right click your new rename.cmd and select edit. it'll open in notepad.
Type in
copy *.xml *.txt
exit
Click File, Save and then close file.
Run file
And in the word's of one of America's finest - Wallah!

On the geeky note - we need to start thinking about uploading our zipped turns to the site rather than the two files - this A. makes it quicker to download for the rest of the team and B. takes up less space, as at our current rate we'll be running out of room around T15 I reckon.

Still haven't had many comments on my draft orders btw...

Thank you Craig Savage! Incredible something you learned long ago and long since forgot you have forgotten will still solve so many niggling little problems in life... And this runs only in the folder the .cmd file is in too! (checked!).

Mike, how about including this (or the instructions) in your newest Autominister.zip...?

Done. I put Craig's instructions (slightly modified) on how to make your
own file. No sense passing up an opportunity to educate others.

Thanks Craig!
