Dear Middle Earth players
We've finally got MEOW (Middle Earth Order Writer) created and uploaded to
our website. (Download page). If you are able to download and use this
that would be a great help in speeding up your order creation, reducing
errors and helping us to provide you with a better service. It's a stand
alone product and should work on most machines - but if you get a problem
then do please get in touch.
This works similarly to Automagic (which requires Excel to use) and although
it doesn't have some of the snazzy extras that AM has it should make your
life as a player a lot simpler.
Thanks and hope to see your MEOW turns soon! :-)
Thanks

Nope. Nor can I.
And I know several people who said they can't find it either.

It will be up shortly - sorry about that I should have checked before making the announcement - it's uploaded just needs to be made available to you guys and that's out of our hands. I'll make an announcement again when I can see it up there but I am glad to see a lot of keen players... :-)

MEOW is now up but not the instructions on how to use MEOW so here they are:
Here's the text of the MEOW.doc so that
you can play with MEOW.
How to get MEOW
First you will need to install Java on your computer if you do not already
have it.
How to get Java
First, check to see if you have Java already. This will differ from machine
to machine. If you do, then skip this section. If you don't:
1. Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
2. Pick the version that suits your computer. Get the JRE. Don't get the SDK
3. Read and agree to the license agreement
4. Download the file (8meg)
Download MEOW from the website
Go to www.middleearthgames.com , links section and download the latest MEOW.zip
Unzip MEOW
Unzip the latest MEOW.zip file (at present meow10.zip) into a new empty folder.
You now have the most recent version of MEOW on your machine
Look in the newly created meow folder and double click meow.jar (you may
wish to make a shortcut/alias for this program). If MEOW doesn't open then
you have not yet installed Java. (Occasionally double-clicking MEOW again
might be needed if it does not load the first time).
This will open a window on your machine - from there the on screen
directions and help files should make using MEOW self explanatory.
Any further questions please get in touch at the usual
me@middleearthgames.com address, so that we can resolve them and allow the
answers to be incorporated into the help files.
Thanks
Clint

Awesome!
Clint, MEOW is just perfect as far as I can see. I downloaded
both it and java and then ran a test turn (didn't submit) from
one of the last game 71 results. VERY COOL! This will save
me making a mistake every 2-3 turns.
more comments as it gets used in real games.
but, bottom line - THANKS! very nice innovation.

Cool glad you like it. After the programmer has had a break we'll look at improving it and adding extras. Note AM has more extras at present and both have different strengths.

Clint,
In running MEOW some of my character names are in the character list are in boldface. Is there any significance to that?
Thanks,
Brian

Yes they are at your capital. I think it's in the instructions but not sure.

Hi,
I am currently using automagic and wonder if there is any reason why I would want to use meow instead? If someone has used both can they feedback their findings please?

My advice - if you're using AM and have no (or minimal) problems stick with that. MEOW was designed for players who haven't got access to Excel but has less features than AM.

Hi,
I just finished to insert the complete set of orders for my turn 3 into meow. So far it worked OK but I am wondering why meow indicates in the blue row under the menu bar turn 2.

Sorry I don't understand the question. You can always contact the programmer direct (or us if need be but our technical knowledge is less, obviously!) about specfic things.
Also if you want me to answer specific questions I generally only reply to your name. :-)

I suspect you loaded your XML file for turn 2 instead of turn 3. It won't matter unless you have a different set of characters between the two turns.
